Eric Schmidt, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Google, Inc., talks to The Washington Times about internet privacy and what personal information Google retains and uses. He emphasizes that data has to be kept between zero and infinite days, and any number that comes between is a political solution. People have different views and it is natural to disagree.

He clearly says that Google respects people privacy defined by law and keep the data abiding it. It does do nothing more to ensure that the public privacy is unhurt.

Google retains data at IP level, and that means whole University, Company or Internet Cafe as one entity. But if you are using internet at home and you have only one computer, Google keeps the data at your IP level i.e. at your level. Eric says, its your bad luck to use at home. lol

GT Analysis

Google might need to keep the data at aggregated level at ISP or Area, which makes it anonymous for all. This data can be used for analysis but can not be used for direct marketing.

Eric plays safe by saying they follow law, but as a Company that is defining people’s behavior on internet Google needs to do something more.
